City tragic Hill revels in derby triumph

SBS commentator and Manchester City fan Simon Hill has described his excitement attending this morning's crucial Manchester Derby, which has further tightened the race for the English Premier League title.
"A fantastic night, a very tense night but I think in the end - and I'm obviously a little biased - the right team won," Hill told SEN radio.
Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0, putting them ahead of their bitter rivals on goal difference with two games to play.

Hill said it was the biggest moment for the Sky Blues since 1968, when City last won the championship.
"Now obviously we haven't won it yet, because there's still two games to go. But I think really the feeling around Manchester this week was that this game was a pivotal moment really - were City about to take over from United, or were United about to maintain the status quo?
"I thought we got sort of half the answer tonight. I thought the way United played was very untypical of United teams down the years. I've been to many Manchester derbys and I have seen United smash us on more occasions than the other way round. They were so defensive tonight.

"They didn't have a shot on target this evening and I think really City fans do now believe that the title could very well be ours."
The telecast of the match went to 212 countries and a reported 650 million homes worldwide. In Melbourne fans gathered for private viewing parties and at the Imperial Hotel in the city and Crown Casino on Southbank.
Hill was as starstruck as he was rapt.

"Diego Maradona was here for goodness sake, it was just ridiculous. I was sat four rows away from Liam Gallagher..."
But the 'voice of Australian soccer' described the atmosphere at Etihad Stadium, which held 47,259 today, as "horrible".
"It was so tense. Great noise of course. But because there was so much riding on it there was an awful lot of tension inside the stadium. The relief when that full-time whistle went was just immense... We've waited an awful long time for this.

"It's a day that Blues will remember for the rest of their days. Providing of course we go on and win the title!"
